If you are hunting along coastal areas tidal marshes and wear thigh waders always choose a pair with thick walls and heavy cleated soles. These will stay in place without the aid of buckles or straps. The oozing mud in the marsh with the high tide quickly is not time to find out that it takes you over a minute to get yourself out of the boots.

Dreaming about becoming a hunting guide? Here's a little advice: before you head out and mortgage your house, tell the boss to take a hike and risk your marriage, ask yourself what your favorite food is, the food you crave above and beyond all other food. Now ask yourself if you're willing to watch everyone else eat that food while you, responsible for cooking the meal, have to stand by and watch. On the other hand, the rising mortgage, no job security and marriage aside, complaining about being a guide is like sitting on a pot of gold and whining about your sore rear end.

Follow this procedure to skin a bear for a rug mount: Make an incision from vent to neck. At the vent, make a cut on the underside of the bear's rear legs to the heel of each rear paw and sever the paw from the leg bone with a saw or disconnect at ankle bone. At the chest, make a cut on the underside of the front legs to the heel of the fore paws and disconnect them with a saw or at the wrist bone.

A good way to always be alert to wind direction is to attach a small duck feather to the limb of your bow.
